Welcome to Super Healthy Foods, a Superfood Resource.

Welcome to Super Healthy Foods

My name is Ron Gross and I have recently entered a new phase on my journey into better eating for me and for my family. I’m a father of four little ones and I prepare a lot of meals for them. You know I truly care about what I am feeding them; I just want to supply them with the best nutrition possible. I am sure most of you who are reading this feels the same way for yourself and for the people you feed. So I decided to create a blog about it.

 Learning About Superfoods

Now I was brought up with the old FDA food pyramid, which even back then didn’t make much sense to me and this is what American food values are based upon. It is what our parents learned and taught us and is what our schools taught us about nutrition. After doing my own research into nutrition, it turns out that we as a nation could not be farther from the truth. We are basically poisoning ourselves and our children with processed foods and fast fatty foods (a proven fact). So what are we to do when we walk into a supermarket and we are inundated with nutritionally valueless food. I believe we have to start over and learn what healthy nutrition is. And, don’t rely on doctors to give us this information, because they are only required to take like 6 hours on the subject and I have talked to nutritionists and they are just as misinformed as the rest of us. A real eye opener for me was watching the movie Food Matters, that really started me on this superfood journey. So like anything else, I’m starting new and fresh and learning everyday about food and nutrition. This is why I created this blog so I can share this information, so we can all make better choices in the foods we eat.

What is Superfoods

The term “superfoods” by the way simply means super nutrient rich foods but I mean more than your typical fruits and vegetables, Oxford dictionary defines it as such:

su·per·food / ˈsoōpərˌfoōd/

• n. (not in technical use) a natural food regarded as especially beneficial because of its nutrient profile or its health-protecting qualities

You can find some of these in your supermarket like broccoli, blueberries, walnuts, almonds green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale and you should eat those things on a regular basis. I just don’t think that is enough, The US population is so malnutritioned that we need superfoods to keep us at an even healthy keel. When I think of malnutrition, I think of the Ethiopian babies we used to see on the old UNICEF commercials now we are not starving per se but we are starving for nutrient rich foods. Our diets are so laden with fat and carbohydrates that we lack the most basic and essential nutrients that our body needs. Haven’t you noticed how many cases of cancer, alzheimer’s and other degenerative diseases there are in this country. maybe, just maybe it is linked to the foods we eat.

Mother Nature Provides

The Earth has been providing us sustenance for thousands of years, so why chemically create something when it’s already made. I believe you should take advantage of the gems that mother nature provides us like the wonders of Spirulina and maca, which until about a year ago, I didn’t even know that half of these foods existed . I really love berries but I’ve never heard of Incan berries, maqui or goji berries  (now I put them in everything). Who knew hemp seeds were an amazing food you can eat; I fortify most of my kid’s food with it now. What about coconuts, sure I would open a can of Coco Lopez once in a while for Pina Colada’s but I really never knew how good coconut is for you until now.

The list of superfoods in my life and in my diet keeps growing and as I experiment with them and find out more about them I will keep posting my findings. I will also provide links to resources and products I feel are worthy of my business and maybe yours. Since most of the superfoods aren’t found in your typical supermarket, I buy a lot of them online and have found some pretty yummy discoveries along the way. My feeling is this, I can spend my money on crappy food that in the long run is going to kill me or spend the extra money so my family and I can live a long and healthy life.

Thanks for visiting.
